About Me.....
I studied science at university despite having a real passion for art at school and as a result
my formal art training is limited to A-level; thereafter I am self-taught. I am very proud of this
because I believe it has allowed me to develop my own style without influence. I graduated
from the University of Southampton in 2007 (BSc. Biomedical Sciences) and although I am a
Scientist by day, I paint, draw, doodle and sketch in my spare time – I love it.
My approach to painting is always with the aesthetic in mind. I don’t really like or understand
conceptual art; you can throw all the meaning you want at it but ultimately it’s just a picture.
I like many types and styles of art, but whatever the style I think it needs to show some labour,
skill and imagination. When creating my own paintings, colour, vibrancy and character are
important because I want them to excite and inspire others. I would rather create an expressive
interpretation of something than a literal copy; if you prefer the latter then a photo will do.
I love to see the world and have visited many countries on many continents, including Mexico,
India, Morocco and Cambodia to name a few. Travel, foreign cultures and people from around
the world are my main sources of inspiration, and this is evident throughout my diverse portfolio.
I am inspired especially by Bellany, Kahlo, Cooper, Klein and a great number of other living
painters and printmakers, as well as illustrators, architects and film makers.
